Don't pretend like you know what someone is going...
You don’t know how much pain this person is in. It doesn’t matter how old this person is. Just because you may be older, doesn’t mean that you’ve been through more shit than they have. This person is really suffering. When they vent just listen, please. They need someone there. Don’t talk about your experiences of how you went through something “similar”....
